heather had a sim card that came with an orange network phone. She put this into a phone that was originally with O2. It has been working fine for a while now but has suddenly stopped. her sisters O2 card works in the phone so we are not sure what the problem is. If I bought a new sim card for O2 do you think this would solve it? Someone said that Orange could have ' blocked it@ but I don't understand all this technology. any thoughts anyone??
Thanks

Basically, O2 will have put a bar on it. If it was O2's phone originally, then she will have to call them up to get the "network bar" removed.... it will then be able to be used on the Orange network. They will only do this if out of the original contract, and, as far as I am aware, they don't *have* to do it :) You may have a problem if its a new phone, as PAYG phones are sold cheaply on the understanding that the network will make the money back through the calls - which they don't if you are using someone else's sim

Thanks Chloe, I have just spoken to o2. You were absolutley right. I have ordered a new sim card as they would not unblock. Your a Star! :)

Oh help - I don't understand these things either :) Daughter has a relatively new Orange PAYG phone. She has just bought an O2 sim card (from O2) - does what you are saying mean that Orange are likely to block her phone so that she can't use the O2 card in her Orange phone ?
Thanks

The best solution is to get the phone unlocked, that way it can take any sim card. Normally costs about £10.

Yes, when the Provider (ie Orange) picks up the fact that the phone is being used not in conjunction with their own Network they will automatically bar it. Its basically a security measure. You will then need to ask them to release it, but whether they will or not is a different matter.

Thanks - it is a bit of a con really, O2 advertise their sim card for £9.99 but don't tell people that they are at risk of having their phone locked. I will warn daughter :)
Thanks

I always think they have a nerve for charging for sim cards at all... how else are you going to use their network if they don't give you a sim??! Phone Orange and ask them to ensure the phone is unlocked for other network use - if they um and ah start using words like "OFTEL" and "Mobile Phone Regulator". Usually works :)

We had this problem & we got so fed up with all the phone calls to Orange that in the end we phoned a guy in the local paper and he told us all these codes etc.. to unlock the phone and it worked :D He charged us £15.00 but we can now use any sim :D
Good Luck

You can go into the Carphone Warehouse and they'll unlock a phone for around £10.
I've just had all this palaver cause I wanted a new phone body but not a new SIM (wanted to keep old number and can't on PAYG). Its all a big con to ensure you pay 80 or 90 quid for new phone.
