Hey,

As some of you may know im counting down to Friday 2nd May when we can bring our pup home, the breeder has called and said that some pups are going earlier and we can have ours too if we like, Well of course we would love to have him sooner, but suddenly i got this unprepaired feeling!

I have bowls, toys, leads, collars even bedding and stuff sorted for him, but we had planned a long 4 day weekend where my hubb would be off work to help look after the pup then he would go back and i would be at home as usual. But now we can have him this weekend hub is working on Sat morning, and we as a unit (hub, me, dog and pup) would only really have Sunday together. Would that be better?

I had never thought really but what happens if we need to leave the pup for say an hour or so (supermarket or somewhere that the pup can not come) We have an 8 yr old dog too. We dont intend on the pup having a room as i am hoping he will be where ever we are from day one..But obviousley i dont want to leave my dog and the pup together unsupervised untill im sure they are ok. Should i put the pup in a safe place on his own say the bathroom or kitchen?

Im sure these nerves are normal, and im sure i will have many more once i get him home! Any advice? Also the breeder said she was going to give us some of his food, should i ask her what it is and buy the same before he comes home or wait?

I feel all excited and nervous at the same time, like a child when i used to do school plays! :)

Thanks, Roxanne

Just thought i would add, This is our first pup, The 8yr old was raised by my mother and he came to live with me when i left home (he always was mine!) So as you can see i have never had a puppy only a dog.

Pup should cope fine on his own when you go shopping. Put him in a safe place on his own, so that he can't annoy your other dog, leave him with a drink and a toy and he'll be okay. If you can time it that you go out after he's had a meal, a play, and a wee/poo, with luck he'll settle down and sleep.

If you want to be safe - get him a crate. I don't know what breed you are getting, but if he isn't going to be too big, the one from Argos is fine. When we had our pup, I felt reassured that nothing nasty could go on between her and our older dog if we had to leave them together. A crate is also very useful for car journeys and other times when you can't supervise the pup and want to make sure that he is safe - AND your home :)

Hi
you may find pup cries when you leave him at times - this is all perfectly normal and they do grow out of it- so dont worry !!! :)
