My newfoundland megan gave birth 10 day's ago, megan is an outside dog, from her own choice, she cannot stand the heat.I have her indoors in my bedroom so I can keep a and eye on her and someone is with her at all times, I am paraniod as she laid on 1 of her first litter 2 years ago and killed it.I do not know what to do for the best as she is panting all through the night ,but I cannot open a window, because of the pups, the vet has been out and checked both mum and pups the day after she welped and again on saturday as she had been restless all night and panting, she is A1 and so are all the pup' but I do not like to see her panting all through the night as she is uncomfortable with heat, it is a catch 22 situation, has anyone got any idea's what might help,it do's not seem to affect her so much through the day,as she leaves them and lays on the landing.

Hi, as long as the pups are thriving and she is attending to their needs, let her lie away from them if she wants to, to keep cool. At 10 days the temp of the heating need not be so high now as at birth. 70 degrees should be fine. In fact on warm days I would be tempted to leave the heat off for an hour or two, under supervision, and see what happens. I expect the pups have good coats now and they will snuggle up to their hairy mum for warmth. If you are using an overhead lamp, move it far to one side of the bed so the pups can lie under it if they want to but she can keep cooler at the other end. I would keep moderate heating on at night though. By 3 weeks if the weather is normal for the time of year, and the pups are doing well, they could probably do without any extra heat in the day time and only at night if it falls below 55/60. make sure the mum has plenty to drink, I give mine water with a little glucose in- dessert spoon to pint of water, they seem to drink more of it than plain water.

We have seven pup's they are 3 weeks gone thursday, 3 Landseer females, three black dogs, and 1 black bitch. they are all sold to working homes, as I do water work and rescue, I have the dad and he is great at carting, they are all doing well, but they can be little terror now that they have found there feet, Iwill keep one of the Landeer bitches to carry on the working line

I hope it is all right to post this as all the pups are sold.
