Hello
I'm looking for any information any of you may have about Welsh Springer Spaniels in terms of temperament, and suitability as a pet for an active youngish (!) couple with no children who enjoy hiking and work from home. I'm considering getting one as my first dog after quite a bit of research on the internet and trawling through the Daniel Tortora book but it would be nice to hear from people who have personal experience of the breed. Also, how much should I expect to pay for a well-bred puppy? If anyone has time to give advice it would be much appreciated - thanks.

They happen to be my favourite Spaniel breed, as I have often looked after a friends Welshies. They are not quite so frenetic as English Springers from Working lines, and there doeshn't seem to be the Show working split that there is with the English.

As they do not have such long and heavy ears these are less trouble than in Cockers and Spriongers 9less prone to infection, though still need theri ears kept plucked, and don't drag on the ground in the wet).

They in common with other Spaniels can suffer from seperation anxiety if allowed to get too dependant, as they are a real people dog.

As my friend no longer breeds (she had a litter with a fitter, so didn't breed from the bitch again, but when the dog died it turned out to be a Brain tumour, and not epilepsy, but by then the bitch was to old to breed from, and that was the end of her line), I could give you her name and number for a Warts and all on the breed. Click on my name and email me.

Hello, Ali! Thankyou, Brainless. I've tried to send you an email but because I haven't quite got the hang of using the Champdogs forum yet, I think I probably sent it to a different address from the one you expected! So I am resending it and you may end up with two the same (Can I borrow your Username - think I need it!).
- Cheers, Jo.
