Hi there, does anyone know what to do if my puppy gets stung in the mouth. He is 4 months old and has just noticed these strange things flying around. I am convinced that one day he will catch one in his mouth and I have heard awful things about tongues swelling and choking etc. etc. when a reaction occurs. I would love to have something in the house that could be given safely to tackle this eventuality if it happens. Julie

I have heard that vinegar will help with bee stings. Just pour onto tongue/lips. Inlaws dog was stung once and thats what they did & had not after effects with the dog cept smelling like a chippy. Im sure others will give more advice as well.

If your puppy does get stung then give them a piriton tablet (the normal ones you can get from a chemist). They work really well for insect stings.

One of my pups was stung about 8 times in the mouth last summer and his tongue did swell, it was a mad dash to the vets as he started having breathing problems and I must admit I was very scared. When we got to the vets he gave him an injection and within minutes he was ok, I am hoping he wont do the same this year.

Give him some ice cubes to chew as well :)

For bee stings use Bicarb of soda damp finger and then dab into bicarb and rub in .
For wasps use vinigar dont confuse bee sting and wasp stings they are different!

The way I remember it is:

For Bees use Bicarb,
For Vasps use Vinegar.

That's clever. I could never remember which was which, so I use Piriton!!

If it's Bee remove the sting then give Piriton. If wasp then just Piriton, not just for stings in the mouth but anywere, stops the swelling removes the pain.

I have managed to get the piriton in liquid form which I think might be easier with my two being little dogs - especially with the size of Molly's little mouth :)

I'm currently going through a learning period with my dog. She is highly allergic to Wasps and Bees, unfortunately we found out the hard way with her going into anaphylactic shock and almost losing her. We had a vespid test done on her, to find out that it was wasps and bees. She is currenlty going through a test period with her dermatology vet and is going in for weekly shots to build up her immune system against the venom. We have been told by the emergency vet that if she shows signs of going into shock again to give her a Benadryl with Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, or if you can get a vet to write a perscription, we also have an epinephrine junior shot handy to give her. Gosh you poor thing. How long was it before the shock symptoms developed and how long before you got her to the vet?

Unfortunately recently didn't get enough time to find out that one of our dogs was allergic to bee stings. She'd been outside in the garden, came in started drinking loads of water, which she straight away brought back up and unfortunately died.

Anton the day before brought a bee to me in his mouth, I presume that it had stung something else, because I was worried sick but he was fine. The bee was still slightly alive when he dropped it.
