Welcome to the forum.
May I suggest that you contact the American Kennel Club who should be able to point you in the right direction :-)

Hi guest
Yorkies are not my breed but I believe that 4lb maybe too small. Dogs are usually small but bitches a little bigger. Do contact an experienced breeder of Yorkies so that you don't put your little girl at risk unnecessarily. Good luck.

being a established breeder of over thirty years, I am appaled that anybody would want to breed from a bitch of under 4 lbs. In my experiance, this is far to small to breed from, and could be detrimental to the health of both the bitch and it's offspring.

i don't think that 4 lbs is too small as weight isn't really a factor. I would take her to a vet to check that she is healthy enough and also that she is big enough to bear (sure I've spelt this wrong) pup's. I must warn you though that if she's this size you should be prepared for a caeser.

I must disagree with you, as a bitch’s weight is proportionate to its size. At under 4lb, you are subjecting the bitch to a possible caesarean, and losing both the bitch as well as her puppy/s. As a breeder of over thirty years, I would never consider mating a bitch under 5 lbs, let alone 4lbs. I would ask you to seriously consider not mating such a small bitch

I don't know much at all about yorkies but I do know about animal husbandry for a good number of species. To mate a bitch, in the knowledge you will most likely have to have a caesarean ir dreadful and irresponsible. I am appalled. One of my best bitches had to have one for innertia once, despite being a superb bitch in both field & bench, I would never have dreamed of mating her again for the risk it would have put her in.
