Topic Dog Boards / Health / Thyroid??

I have a Bulldog with a Thyroid problem, the Veterinary treatment (licenced) is Soloxine! Does anyone out there get a prescription from their Vet so they can get these, or something similar from a Chemist instead of paying so much for these pills? I'd be very interested to know of any other informative web-sites with this kind of info too? Thanks xx

A friend of mine has an Afghan on Soloxine, and the cost is very reasonable. Maybe you should try a different vet.

You should be able to get a prescription from your vet for them. (Not sure how much they will
charge you for it)
Then you can go to people such as Canine Chemists Direct (Hyperdrug Pharmaceuticals ltd)
They can be found on the internet http://www.caninechemists.com
Or you can phone them Tel. 0700 0456777.
They do dispense Soloxine but they don't quote a price in their catalogue as it is a Prescription
only medicine.
There is another chemist that is on the web, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
They do advertise in the Dog Papers and sometimes the Dog magazine's.
Good Luck.
Kind Regards
Kirstine

Thanks for that, I rang them, £14 & vat for a tub of 250, my vet charged me £11.75 last Friday for a prescription, at hyperdrug they informed me that as from last friday Patricia Hewitt had stated that prescriptions were not to be charged for!
I'm really glad I did shop around now, and especialy glad I came on here, thanks ever so much xx

Hi Luvabull

When your dog has to go for its blood test make sure you know what time it should have it. The timing varies on whether the drug is given once or twice a day, and because of its half-life you can get misleading results. Not all vets will tell you this, also try to give the drug at the same time(s) every day.

Hi

I have a Cocker with a Thyroid problem. From various info and advice given I have found it best to give half the tablet in the morning and then the other half in the evening.

Also when going for blood tests no food.
