Hi,
After thinking long and hard (years), about getting a dog. I have decided now would be a good time to do so. I would like to get possibly two male silver puppies with blue eyes. Has anyone got any experience with these dogs, any stories, advice, guidance on buying etc. I would very much appreciate your comments, so I can make this a memorable experience and not a bad one, I have posted on the wanted board but don't know how to check breeders out, advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your comments.

"so I can make this a memorable experience"

If you get two male weimaraners together it certainly will be that :D Don't do it! Get one and then if you are still taken with the breed two years down the line, buy another :-)

Just like Admin said: Don't do it!! Definatly get one first and then a couple years later get another (9 months at the earliest).
When you get two at a time it is more difficult spending time with both equally - puppies need LOTS of one on one attention.
Also, money is a big thing - just one by itself is expensive enough but adding another doubles the expenses.
Another thing, NEVER get 2 from the same litter, because if their is a genetic problem....you have it times 2. :(
Jealousy is another issue.
These are just some concernes - I think having two dogs are great.....just give some time inbetween. :)

Hi, I would definately, definately talk to other weimaraner owners and read up as much as you can about the breed. Although they are beautiful dogs they are very strong willed so I think that getting two at the same time would be pushing it. We had one and he was a lovely dog, lovely nature, but very very hard work for a long time, in fact he was just settling down when we lost him to gastric torsion at 5 1/2. So if you decide that a weimaraner is the dog for you, I hope you find a good, helpful breeder that will assist you in your selection and I wish you all the best for you and your new dog in the future.

Hi,
Thank you for your comments. I had a look at the Weimaraner Club of Great Britain website and was advised not to get two dogs from the same litter. I guess I was barking up the wrong tree! I am now looking into getting a rescue dog, if anyone has any comments to share, I would appreciate it greatly. Many Thanks.

Unfortunately there are many weimaraners in rescue, particularly males. Often the case is someone liking the look of the dog, silver grey coat, blue eyes.......aaaaaaaah lovely, then they don't put in the necessary hardwork and research, they find that their lifestyle doesn't suit any dog let alone a weimar and before they know it they have an 18mth delinquent. This is not always the case, there are some people with very genuine reasons for handing their dog over to rescue and we applaud them for contacting us rather than just dumping their dog in any kennels or to the first person that comes along.

Weimars are beautiful intelligent dogs but they come with a very big package called Hard Work and Commitment. If you are willing to take on this package from day one, whether you have a puppy or a rescue, then you will find this breed to be the most wonderful, loyal companion ever and you'll be hooked for life. :-)

Please go to the website http://www.weimaraners.uk.net and click on Weimaraner Rescue. This is a website of a very reputable breeder who is also the administrator for the Independant Weimaraner Rescue & Rehoming Service, as well as giving you an excellent breed guide (which is also posted on this website) it also lists the various rescue officers throughout the country allowing you to contact someone close to you.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to post here also as there are a few weimaraner owners/breeders on the board only to willing to help. There are also many rescue people here with bags of experience of rescue dogs of many different breeds.

Best Wishes and Good Luck. :-)

Claire.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I am now registered with five weimaraner sites and will keep a look out for a rescue dog. I don't want to get one too old or too upset, as I think this will prove difficult. Time will tell!
