Hi, I will be taking two of my dogs to the vets tonight with suspected kennel cough, one a boxer 21months, and a tibetan terrier 8 months, they went in kennels for 2 days this weekend coming out on Monday morning, this morning started to do the reaching with the sound of something stuck in their throat, and the boxer is bringing up small amounts of white foam, her left eye is also a little weepy. I have heard some owners give Benaylin, if so how much and how many times a day. Does the vet give antibiotics?
We also have another boxer who wasn't in kennels and does not show any signs, is it possible to stop him getting it? I am burnign teatree oil and eucalptus oil as these are good at getting rid of airborne nasties.
Any help or info appreciated.
Thankyou
Julie

Julie, you are doing the right thing in taking your dogs to the vet. However, at the same time, ask the boarding kennels what bedding they use. The reason I say this, is because the kennels I go to use shredded paper and my Chewi was coming back with a slight cough and sore eyes and it wasn't Kennel Cough, it was the bedding. They now give him fleece blankets instead with no problem at all. I feel that the more info you can give your vet, the better he is able to diagnose the problem and treat your dogs. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Please don`t take your dogs into the waiting room as - if they have Kennel Cough- they will be infectious to other dogs.
Your vet probably told you that anyway when you made the appointment :-)

Hi cara and jean
No he didn't (well it was the receptionist l spoke to) but l had read that. they haven't coughed at all since 10.00am this morning after l started burning the oil, so fingers crossed it isn't that.
In reply to Jean l took their own bedding in with them and then gave it a really good wash when we got them home, because thet were both quite smelly and gad had something sprayed on their coats to try and disguise it l think because l could smell it, but it seemed to make the smell even worse.

If it is KC it will not be the fault of the Kennels, not enough time to develop. More like they spent the w/e barking their heads off.

Hi everyone, just to let you know that they have both been given the all clear by the vet, he is sure that it is not kc wuth the coughing stopping and after he had checked them, he did say though it was possible for them to have it (if they weren't clear)as they first went in on Saturday, incubation period 2-6 days. He thinks it could have been something they maybe swallowed as they were out in a paddock for most of the time and the tt was digging and rolling about in soil, he was very dirty and matted when l got him back just after only being there for two nights.
The boxer though has got a ulcer on her eye, a fresh one, so hopefully with the drops she is having it will get better without need for anything more. Thankyou for your help

Would you not consider having your dogs vaccinated against KC? Mine was with no adverse reaction (except she licked me on the nose immediately afetrwards ensuring that I too was covered for 6 months!)
Stinks.

Hi
I have just had the two boxers done, thought it best seeing as they are shown, its not very often they will go into kennels.
I got sneezed on!
Thanks
