At what age would people expect a puppy to be able to not need to go to the toilet through the night.
Darcy is still going once during the night
I try and put her outside before we go to bed but shes always too tired and just goes to sleep on the lawn so the latest she is going is about half eight/nine oclock.
I get up at 6.30am and put her straight outside.
When will she be able to hold it??????????????????

Hello Racheal,
How old is darcy again??- couldn't remember think she is slightly younger than Rufus?
Rufus has been going through the night without an accident for a couple of months now - he is nearly 6mths old. Very rarely we have an accident, tends to be when he has drunk loads of water before bed.
Rufus tends to be asleep in the living room by about 10pm so we try and keep him awake otherwise he lies down outside too!! :-)
We just keep picking him up and wait for him to wee before bed (this is normally about 11pm) and then Mark is up for work at 6 when he goes out for his first wee of the day.
i would suggest trying to get her to wee as late as poss at night?

Rachel,
It depends on the puppy! Bailey was six months old before he went through the night. Some can hold it longer than others sooner. :)

Have you got a grassy area near the house ? Could you take her out for a little walk, just until she does something ? Ours go out for a walk about 9.30pm, just down the road or, if hubby takes them, in the field near the house.

yeah thats a good idea.
maybe the thought of a walk might wake her up a bit more rather than just going out into the back garden
Will try that and see if it works

Hi Rachael
It probably depends on your dog just like children differ in age when they stay dry throught he night .
Gus has always managed through the night from when he was tiny . Just a case of making sure he goes to the toilet befoe bedtime .
