I have a bitch (nearly 3yrs) who had puppies 10weeks ago. She is still bleeding albeit lightly, but I am a little concerned. It is fairly red and stringy but is not offensive. My vet has told me to keep an eye on her. The other factor is that she has been sick quite alot lately, but wonder whether this is because we have two puppies here, who are still trying to feed from her ??? Has anyone had a similar experience or any advice. Thank you.
Hi Mich, When is she being sick? I ask that because many bitches will regurgitate their meal for their pups, even at 10 weeks. If it is genuine sickness, though, it would be safest to discuss it with your vet.
It is not unusual for bitches to bleed for seven weeks or so after whelping - is it bright red or dark and stringy. If bright red or smelly then take her to the vet as some breeds suffer from bleeding disorders such as von Willebrands Disease or she could have an infection. If it is dark, stringy and odourless then I would give it a bit longer

I have a 9 week old pup that I've kept. She tried to feed from her Dam at the weekend, which she hadn't done since 7 weeks old, and within an hour Mum had a dark red stringy discharge, and had previously been dry! Pup hasn't been allowed to suck again and Mum is clean again. Just keep an eye.
Is the bitch bringing food back? Some do to try to feed the pups.
You do get sub-invoution of the placental sites on the odd occasion, when they bleed right up to the next season, but not a lot. Mention it to vet, and keep an eye on it to see there's no obvious infection there, and that she's very well otherwise.
