Topic Dog Boards / Health / Arthiritis - suggestions for relief

Does anyone have any suggestions to ease the pain of a dog that is suffering arthiritis in his front legs and now spreading to the back. He is 8 years old and besides that is hale & hearty. His owners have bought him a magnetic collar but is there anything else that anyone knows of to help? All help gratefully received.

I got some Synflex, its great, from the states, get it from there though, the vets here are catching on quick and are charging more than double the price! www.activexamerica.com

You could try a product called Devils Claw, it is widely used in horses, Dodson and Horrell do one, they have a website and a helpline. Good luck.

I got Synflex too for my eldest boy (only 6 bless him). Fantastic stuff. Wouldn't be without it now. It only took a couple of days for it too kick in and he worked the whole of last season without a lame day. Cause it is liquid-form glucosamine it is better utilised by the body. It also has added herbal ingredients such as devils claw for combatting arthritis.

There are two people here that supply it at "synflex" rates as opposed to "vets" rates, if you want the contact details mail me and I'll send them on, however it is just as cheap to get it direct from http://www.activexamerica.com - and they only take a few days to get it here. Also if you go direct you can enter the weekly sweep stakes and get $5 of your next purchase (which I've had twice).

Completely off topic, I went to the vet the other day and they have started doing Panacur liquid wormer. I usually buy it from the farmers store for £10 a bottle. Our vet is charging £18.80 for exactly the same thing.

I have been using Synflex on my boy since last December and I wouldn't be without it, it really is a miracle juice. I have tried other Glucosamine products, usually in pill form, and nothing has had the success that Synflex has. I was wondering if it was a one off and if other "doggie" users would have the same succes that I have and now that I know it is not a one off i'll be recommending it to everyone. I did mention this product to my vet and she raised her eyebrows in a knowing fashion and agreed that she was pleased with the results, she also suggested that if the veterinary practice owner were to sell this product it would cost a lot more than it costs to buy direct from the UK supplier.

Synflex don't have "a supplier" in the UK, they have distributors (2 to be precise), who work on their own account. Their pricing is similar to ActiveX and not over the top. I don't see why a vet practice should charge so much more, they could buy direct from the source just as we can.

I must say that I am seriously considering becoming a distributor down here in the south west as I have had such good results. The best part is you can use the same stuff on humans too as it is tested to such high standards.

Hi Dawn, I've just ordered some for my 13yr old G. Retriever, I'm hoping it'll help her mobility in her twilight years, I also got some for my sister-in-laws' Giant Schnauzer who's also suffering,
despite hydrotherapy and acupuncture, so this could ease things with some luck; thanks for the tip anyway :)

Hi,

I have a dog with arthritis, as he is young too, our vet recommended a course of injections called Cartrophen, which seemed to bring a spring back into him. He also has a bio flow collar. There are also dog coats available, especially for dogs with arthritis - this was a god-send in the winter for my boy! They are made from flectalon - same as horse rugs I'm told (heat reflective) I have a bed stuffed from it too. I also put him to bed with one of those pink hot water bottle type things that you put in the microwave.

Best wishes

Hello,

Just to update you.

The owners of the dog in question bought a bottle of Synflex and have started him on it, so fingers crossed we'll see an improvement and he'll be on this planet a bit longer!

Thanks to all those who replied. :)

Hi L/Munster, like the others I`ve been giving Synflex for a while now to one of my dogs & seen a big improvement in him :) I ordered it from the states & got 3 bottles at a cheaper rate. I`ve found it better than the pill form I`d given him but I must also say I first saw an improvement in him when I took him off the rymadil & complete foods & put him on the Pitcairn diet & now with the synflex he runs around & is in himself very happy :) Hope the same happens to your friends dog :)

Hi Christine,

Pitcairn diet?

Harley's owners have taken him off his steroids and are relying on the Synflex to help. I must email them to see how it's going.

Hi L/Munster, "Dr Pitcairns Complete Guide To Natural Health for Dogs & Cat`s"!! :) :) My dog had been on Metacm, steroids & then progressed to Rimadyl since a few months old. The Pitcairn diet was the first natural diet I changed them to & also at the same time I stopped the Rimadyl. The difference in him was so obvious. Before he used to be so stiff when getting up, lethargic & no get up & go in him. Almost overnight he changed in himself to being full of beans. OK so he was still a little stiff but with a joy & happiness, this was before I gave him any glucosamine supps! Now he`s improved such a lot to what he used to be like. Don`t think it`ll work miracles but the diet & the synflex combined thats the next best thing to one for my dog!!! :) The books not expensive & also has lots of advice on other health issues besides just diet. It`s on the net just put the name in a search engine & have a peek :)

Hi,
I have an eight year old dog who has started suffering with pain in his front leg....my vets diagnosed him with arthritis....and we have been giving him pain killers and cartlidge tablets for approx 5 months...NOTHING appeared to be working. I have recently been refered to a orthapedic specialist who after our first consulation is sure that the slight signs of arthritis that showed up on xray are NOT the cause of his pain and lameness....We are awaiting further investigations, but in all cases of arthritis i would suggest that a second opinion is sought. If the specialist is right with his first thoughts, there is an 80% chance that we are going to be able to solve the problem entirely.
