My Mum's 11 year old greyhound has been lame now on one of her back legs for the past couple of months. Mum already gives her glucosamine tablets for dogs but the maximum dosage don't seem to be helping her. She's been x-rayed at the vets but nothing showed up so they didn't diagnose, or rule out, arthritus or bone cancer. The vet wants to re-x-ray her in 6 weeks but following the anaethestic she's had severe gastroenteritus for which they have also found no reason - I think more lab results are due back tomorrow. Whether the squits (which included blood) are due to the anaethetic, rinitadol (drug for inflammation for the leg), or just a nasty bug is unknown.
Because of the age of the dog Mum is reluctant to pursue further a diagnosis for the lameness with more x-rays and investigations but I wondered whether anyone had any suggestions for alternative remedies. I think that the dog's severe gut reaction has upset Mum and she's lost faith in the vets. In addition the vets only had the greyhound sleeping on a thin rug in her pen which, as any owner will know, is far from adequate.
I would really appreciate any suggestions and help.
