Topic Dog Boards / Health / umbilical hernia in puppy

One of our 5 week old pups has an umbilical hernia about the size of a pea. You can gently push it back. Do you think it may go or might it need an op.
Thanks

Some hernia's will heal by themselves. One of my dogs has a hernia but now all that is left is a small fatty deposit. The hole has sealed itself. I would take the pup to your vet at about 7 weeks of age and ask their opinion as to whether it will need surgery or not at a later stage. They should be able to tell you how big the hole is.
