Hi. New here and I am hoping for some advice. My bitch is on day 56 and about 4 weeks into her pregnancy she began to bleed. Our vet was unable to give me any definate answer as to whether or not she was losing the pups. He gave her Orbax and sent us home. (All tests were negative for infection) I took her in for an x-ray on day 47 and no pups showed up. She's not big in the belly area and teats are still swollen. Should I be expecting any pups or not? Before anyone asks let me say that all testing for hips,eyes and so forth have been done and YES I have "The Book of the Bitch" and have read it through and through. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is our first litter and I am very worried. She is acting like a pup again and would run, jump and play all day if I would let her. Thanks.

Hi, It doesn't sound promising, but you never know there might be one or two, I would get everything ready just in case - I expect you have - but I would hazard a guess that she isn't pregnant - hope I'm wrong.

It sounds as if she lost some or all of her litter, sadly only time will tell, as sometimes Scans and x-rays can miss a single pup or one of Two. I would watch her for up to a week past her due date. A friend of mine had a bitch pronounced as not in whelp, only to come down in the morning 8 days after due date to find she had one single, rather large pup in her bed (fortunately she was an experienced mother). She was a Welsh Springer, and when she was registered her name after the affix was tthe word Releife!

thats nothing!! my girl was scanned twice by 2 vets (same practice) at a week between and no theres nothing there, she has missed.......... day 63 from the second mating, 11 pups. i might change vets but its a big step.
