Topic Dog Boards / General / dog moods and body language

hi - can anyone recommend a book on this topic?
I've got John Fisher's book Why Does My Dog? and numerous other books but would like a book which is specifically about dog positions and moods including pictures. Some of my books only show the odd picture of aggressive dogs and the crouching play position but not enough detail on other positions and moods such as the lying flat like a pancake and staring wistfully at you position etc, the stalking position, the sleeping dead cockroach position, or the double jointed legs spread out behind when chewing position. The aim is to read my dog as best I can in all situations, not just when is around other dogs.
thanks

Hi Cissy
Not sure what books you already have and what sort of depth you want to go to but Dog Watching by Desmond Morris, goes through a lot of why dogs behave the way they do. From memory there are quite a few pictures of dogs, I think they try to use a pictre of a different breed for each topic... might be worth a browse if you can find one

I haven't got that one but it sounds really good - was looking for as much depth as poss. Will have a look for it.

Try: Know Your Dog - an owners guide to Dog behaviour by Dr Bruce Fogel in association with the RSPCA - but don't hold this book against them as it has some really good pictures and lots of them. This is onle I would highly recommend for anyone wishing to learn more about their dogs

There's also a good one by Roger Abrantes - I think it's called Dog Language but have a bad memory so it may not be! He's only written a couple though so should be OK to find.
