My lab started limping on and off about a week ago. I checked her paw for thorns etc but couldn't find anything, and couldn't feel any heat so have just been keeping an eye on it. She has kept licking between her claws a lot. Today she has a small swelling on the topside of her paw. She hates me touching it although I've been trying to feel it. Last week I wondered if she'd been stung as there were some dozy bees around. Any ideas please on cause and treatment?
Thanks
Lorna

Piriton is an antihistamine that is safe for dogs, I suppose the dose would be the same as for a small child. There is always the chance a foreign body has got into the body and the lump is the bodies way of fighting it, and trying to push it out

Hi Dudleyl, same thing happened to one of my labs just before xmas & we couldn`t see anything but she was limping. Took her to vet & a thorn had gone right inside the webbed part horizontally. Took us a while but we managed to get it out. Try bathing her paw several times a day in a small bowl of saline solution, think it`s a teaspoon of salt per pint of warm water, thats if its a foreign body stuck in there. It maybe an abcess forming now & it could come to a head. If it`s a sting try the antihistamine. Really tho if she`s been limping for a week I`d take her the vet. Hope it`s sorted soon.

It could be a foreign body, or it could be an interdigital cyst. Either way, I'd treat it by soaking it for as long as you can (aim for about 5 minutes at a time) in warm, salted water (1 tsp - 1 pint), several times a day. This should help bring it to a head. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for that tip JG. I was going to try a compress of Comfrey tea, anyone else tried that. This morning she's not limping at all and its quite difficult to tell if its swollen. She had a nice paddle in the cold brook this morning so that probably helped.
