Help! I've got a litter of 4 puppies, just over 4 weeks old and I am having problems getting them to eat anything but scrambled egg. I have tried everything I can think of, eg, porrige, baby foods, mince, chicken and tinned dog food. When I give them any of the food mentioned they tend to taste it and walk away, if it is scrambled egg then they really get stuck into it, but they still don't eat a great deal. They are still feeding off the mother and she seems quite happy to do so at the moment, but I don't know how long that will last.
Any suggestions, and how many meals should they be taking. They will be 5 weeks on Saturday 29th.

Hi, sounds to me like mum is still feeding them really well and they feel they dont need anything else but when a scrummy egg is put down, they just cant resist. I only give my pups egg about once or twice a week, I think eggs at every meal/every day would be too much. This is what I would do: dont feed them for 24 hours and then offer what you have decided to rear them on, once a day until they gobble it up. Most people feed a good quality "complete" puppy biscuit that has been pre soaked in v.hot water for about 40 minutes and sometimes add a little meat. As long as they have been wormed and are growing well I wouldn't be concerned, some mums are such good milkers it can be hard to persuade some litters to eat much til even 6 weeks. Most puppies are on 4-5 tiny meals a day by 6 weeks, but there are always exceptions. Be grateful you have such a good mum!!! :-)
