Everyone who uses Champdogs must have a printer. The cost of replacement cartridges is incredible. You can buy a good printer for around £80 yet two replacement cartridges can cost over £50. The Office of Fair Trading is looking into this cost but they are really slow. Ask them how it is going on enquiries@oft.gov.uk and help gee them up a bit.

You can buy "recycled" ones or refilled ones - but even so they are still expensive for what they are

I have had bad experiences with buying refilled cartridges, mainly because the cartridge had obviously been used several times. Now I refill my own cartridges with great success. It only takes a few minutes and I find I can normally get 4-5 full refills out of a cartridge before I need to buy a new one and start again. I buy online from the site offering the best deal at the time for original cartridges. If you buy the ink online as well, it works out quite cheap if you buy the larger amounts.

I've just discovered that in Tescos you can get plastic envelopes to post used inkjet cartridges for recycling, and apparently for every recyclable cartridge returned they'll donate £2 to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

They can't recycle Epson or laser toner cartridges, though.

At the hospital where I work we are collecting them for the young girl from Manchester whose heart is the wrong way round. She has been on television etc. with David Beckham. I think Kirsty has already raised over a million, I would be happy for anyone to send me any old ones and I will take them to work!!

What really annoys me is the coloured ones. One colour runs out and you have to throw the cartridge away even tho' there is ink in the other colours :(

I think I saw it somewhere that the equivalent of a litre of ink is something like £600!

We buy ours online from either http://www.oink-oink.com or original brands from http://www.inkraider.co.uk Would be interesting to see who other people use.

I order mine online from theinkfactory.co.uk. Don't know if they're cheaper or more expensive than elsewhere!

I wouldn't buy from oink oink.com on principle as they donate 3% to the rspca :( :(

Had a look at those two sites, expensive. Try http://www.7dayshop.com. They are the cheapest I've now found. I've just bought an Epson 950 with cartridges for each colour seems to be the cheapest and most cost effective way to go with outstanding colour reproduction.

I buy the compatable cartridges from my local post office and to replace both colour and mono only costs me £16.

I have an Epson C40 that doesn't take to compatibles too well...so I have to buy the full cost Epson ones...needless to say I can't use my printer at the mo as I haven't enough spare dosh to buy replacements. Anyone else with the C40?
- By bob [gb] Date 26.03.03 19:25 UTC
I've got a C42UX, it takes compatibles quite well, no difference in quality of print. I pay £4 for black and £6 for colour cartridges, my friend has a C60 and pays £5 for both because the cartridges are not chipped. For the amount of printing my son does I'm glad black is only £4, we use at least one a week.

I have got a Lexmark Z13, prints okay, only cost £30 from Argos on special offer, ink is just about to run out now, where can I get cheap cartridges for this printer, seems as though colour cartridges are about £28. Also what does compatibles mean???
- By gibbsy [gb] Date 28.03.03 17:01 UTC
You can get cartridges for £17.99 at www.7dayshop.com. Compatibles means cartridges made by another manufacturer that will fit your printer.

charm, I have a lexmark z34, and have found it difficult to get compatable cartridges, but if you have a staples near you they are half the price of ones from WHS or such like. If you havent got one near you im sure you can order online, or recieve a catalogue from them. Not sure what the website is but i found it by just putting the name in google.
