Dear Forum Members,
Bit of a strange question, but does anyone know if heartworm liquid which is applied to the back of the neck still works past its use by date? To be precise, 7 months past its use by date. Also, could there possibly be any negative side affects from the application of it onto a dog, because I used some on my 4 month old puppy and after the application I noticed that it had passed its use by date. I rang the vet I acquired it from and she said it would be fine, but I wanted some second opinions so I have turned to youse. I would appreciate any feedback. :)
Thanks,
Mr Amstaff.

I think this a question for the non-UK members, as heartworm is only found in imported dogs in the UK.
So over to you lot! :)
Hi Mr Amstaff, no chemicals past their sell by date are good! They can have adverse affects, *go off* & not work the way they should. Saw a proramme on telly once dealing with this same thing & the animal had a bad reaction. It was a flea treatment. I would dump any chemicals past their sell by date, after all, the manufacturers must put it on for a reason.

Hi Mr. Amstaff,
7 months is not very out of date. For most medicines this would just mean that it is slightly less effective, so definitely do not use it again.
I have never liked medicines applied to the back of the neck, I think it's too easy for the dosage to vary.
