Some may know that molly (shih tzu) has a skin condition which we shall be getting expert help on tomorrow - think she will have to see demertologist. She hasnt been very scabby lately (sorry for graphic detail :) ) so thought problem gone but one big one appeared on friday and today it looks a bit sore. She also has a couple round her neck which came up at same time but these are okay. Can I put a mild salt wash on it or does anyone have any other tips??
She is going to vet tomorrow (poor girl so soon after her recent throat op) to sort this prob out but any help for today would be most appreciated to make her more comfortable.

Hi
I always used salt water on my dogs and it helped, I also put sudocrem on cuts and sore bits (its a antibacterial healing cream used for nappy rash, bed sores ect - obviously use it on areas were it can not be licked off). ope everything goes ok at the vets.

Yeah a good wash down with diluted tea tree oil, or aloe vera diluted or in shampoo form.
Then apply aloe vera gel.
Works on my 11mth pup who has a gorse allergy.

Thanks everyone :)
I have used salt water cos have none of the others in the house. It does look horrible so glad we are seeing vet tomorrow. I did have some hibiscrub but I cannot find it anywhere - typical.
I will let you know what vet says.
Many thanks again Gina :p

If they irritate her, you could try cold chamomile tea, we found this to be a good anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory when Minx scratched the inside of her ear flap (on brambles, we think) and just wouldn't stop scratching at it.

There are several homoeopathic remedies that you can try, but as a starting point try homoeopathic sulphur 6c three times daily. Do try and find a homoeopath in your area that treats animals. Diet can also cause skin problems. My dogs are fed on the BARF diet and don't have so much as a flake of dandruff, which is more than can be said of my previous dogs that were always fed commercially.

Sorry to hear Molly has another problem. My shih-tzu Lulu has a similar skin complaint. I use Otodex on hers from the pet shop. I bath and dry the area first, then aply the cream until it has dried up and the bath again and comb the scab out. I'd be interested to see what your vet says as ours said that we could have test done but there was no guarantee they would find the cause as it could be many things. She can go a few months with nothing and then one or two appear. Hope you find an answer.

Thanks for the reply Karen - will definitely look into homeopathy
Lulu - Your Lulu sounds exactly like Molly sorry to hear about her but nice to have your input. I will get what you have said for now. Took her to vet last night and she said more or less the same as yours. The small ones are going but the large one is horrible so on antibiotics and hibiscrub. I hope she only gets them a few times a year though. Will get the Otodex for now too.
Many thanks both of you :D
