Hi Everyone

Excellent board full of info!

I have bred Labradors in the past and am now looking to breed from my Rhodesian Ridgeback. She has just been hipscored and is good at 2,1. Does anyone know of any quality Stud Dogs in the North East of England that would be suitable for my bitch? The plan is to get a quality litter that will get me a show dog or two! - now that I have the time to show and breed again!

Look forward to hearing from anybody!

Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Good hip-score, you must be pleased.

For stud dog, probably the best thing to do is ask your bitch's breeder for advice. He/she will know (if they're any good!) if your bitch is a good brood prospect, and also which lines they would think would 'gel' best with yours. Be prepared - often the most suitable stud is the other end of the country! But the travelling is worth it to get quality pups.

Good luck. :)

I've registered couldn't figure out how to reply!

Sorry, I should have said - but my breeder is no longer about, all my attempts to contact her have failed miserably - I have been writing letters to the address on my dogs papers but have not had a response. I have tried directory enquiries etc! but not getting anywhere!

I applied to join the Ridgeback Club of the UK in the hope that they could help, but I haven't heard anything back!

Not sure what the next stage is. I have plenty of time so am in no rush - would prefer to do this correctly!

Hi Kevin,
The Kennel Club may be able to help, if the breeder is still registering litters. Other than that, you may have to keep pestering the Ridgeback Club.

In the meantime, it would be a good idea to visit a few Championship Shows when Ridgebacks are being shown and talk to some of the exhibitors (not when they're just about to go into the ring!). The more advice you can get the better.

It's nice to hear of people not in a tearing hurry, who want to do the best they can! Good luck :)

Hi Kevin,

I don't know where you are in the NE of England but the Scottish KC championship show is held at Edinburgh in May and it may be worth your while going for a look. Entries haven't closed yet and if you wanted to take your girl, you could enter her Not For Competition which means you can take her into the showground but you don't show her! Details can be downloaded from Fosse Data.

Then you could met the other Ridgeback folk entered there and see what type appeals to you. The RR Club of Scotland have a website and there are a few people who have good stud dogs too, I don't own the breed but know several folk within it.
