My 5 month old cav toilet trained early to going outside but i only have a very large balcony which in the summer the children play on so the question is i take him for long walks 3 times a day but he will not go when out for a walk he always waits till we get back he went once for a poo but that was it ok i wash the balcony down straight away but i would rather clean it up out walking so how or will he ever go on a walk

Figure out what time your cav needs to poo. Even if this means you take him back outside right away before he goes on the balcony. Take some poo outside and put it where you would like to go. When you are certain he *really* needs to poo, take him outside, let him sniff his own poo .. and hope that he will go. It may take a while, but this should work.

This is another reason to avoid castration early. It will make him less confident and willing to eliminate away from home. Owners of young bitches have this problem quite often, in that the bitch will not go away from her usual place at home. Marking and toileting away from home are marks of a socially confident dog, and lower ranking ones will not wih to advertise their presence by going awy from the safety of home.

As you have taught him to go on the balcony in the first place, it will be very difficult to stop him, and unkind to chastise him, for going in the place he was taught to go.

As he gains confidence and approaches sexual maturity he will be keener to go away from home.

i dont want to stop him exactly but if he goes when out walking he wont do it so much on there thats what im thinking about of course i wont chastise him for something hes been allowed to do im not heartless no offence to you
