Our 9 month border terrier Billy spent the weekend with my partners Mum as we were away. She forgot she had a bag of peanuts (for the birds) in her utility room and 'Billy the Border' scoffed them! Four days later he is still pooing peanuts. Are there any health risks associated with dogs and peanuts?

I don't ever remember hearing of any, and I know peanuts are hard to digest so not surprised they are showing up. It won't cost anything for a quick telephone call to the vet though just to be on the safe side. Our vet nurses are usually great about this kind of info if you need it.

I would have thought that if there was going to be a problem, it would have surface by now. I had to give up feeding the birds as Chewi would go out and eat up all the dropped peanuts, seeds etc. The first few times he pooed after that I thought he was riddled with worms until I realized it was the seed husks!:)

My dogs the same, we have a parrot who throws his food outside his cage, and if the dog gets there before us, he will hoover the sunflower seeds and the peanuts. We haven't had any side effects, but we do try to be a bit quicker with the hoover now :)
