We have a 6 month old male Rottie and recently he has started to limp.
Firstly it was one of his hind legs and now it has moved to one of his front legs.
We spoke to our vet who said it could be a condition called Paneostetis, which is another word for growing pains.
We have looked it up on the internet, but there is not much on this condition.
We have been advised to limit his excersise for a while and keep him on the lead, (which he hates!!).
He can be fine one minute with no lameness at all, then the limp appears in different legs!.
It is very worrying for us as we aware of all the conditions Rottweilers are prone to.
We wanted to hear from anyone who may have come across this condition.
All comments very much welcomed.

Ive had a quick search to see what I can find out ..seems to be a fairly common thing in a few breeds ..Rotties and Basset Hounds in particular. Also called *Growing Pains* it leads to limping , seems to affect pups more than older dogs and appears to clear up after rest. Hopefully Dizzy can help out ..I seem to remember that she bred Rotties for quite a while

You may find that it is actually OCD, which is a serious problem and is extremely prevelant in male rotties. It starts to show at about 6-8 months, manifesting its self as intermitent lameness.
With OCD, I'd expect it to favour one leg, unless the dog is unlucky enough to have it in the rest. That was my experience of OCD, anyhow.
It does sound more like Pano', to me, which will go from one leg to another, back to front, etc.
If your dog is still on puppy food, many think it beneficial to put their dogs onto adult food, hopefully to slow down the dogs growth. There is as much debate against that idea though as there is for it.
Rest and limited exercise is the best treatment until your dog has finished growing :)
