I have a 4-month-old rough collie. I just started him in puppy obedience classes a couple of weeks ago. I am using a two-ring nylon choker, but it keeps getting caught in his hair. Is there a training collar people use for this breed that doesn't get caught. Are the metal chokers better, or maybe a Volhard training collar?

Why not use just a plain, broad leather collar? Welcome to the forum :-)

Thanks for the advice. He does wear a plain rolled leather collar, but for obedience training he really needs a slip or choker collar.

Hi we use a rolled leather slip for our rough collies it doesn't damage the hair and acts like a check collar by tightening and releasing but much more gentle

I've never seen a rolled leather slip collar, only nylon or metal chokers. Where can you buy them? He has a regular rolled leather collar, not the slip variety.

There are also leather half-check collars which are good, though the short length of chain will affect the hair slightly. Not nearly as much as a full chain check collar.

Hi,
I found a place online that sells rolled leather slip leads. I ordered the 6-ft length. Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it:) It never occured to me to use something like that. Thanks again.
