Please help. i have a 13 year old poodle called Acontius, who had a operation last year to remove a brain tumour. However, He still has fits and becomes very restless after them, despite the increasing/ decreasing of dosage given to him, from the vets. Has anyone had the same experience with their dog, and what advice can you give?? Thankyou.

I am sorry that I cannot give any advice specific to Acontius' condition. My Yorkie died this summer. She had a fit and I took her to the vet and then to a specialist. A sonagram showed growths on her liver and a small bladder cancer, however, the specialist neurologist did not think they were the cause of her fits. She suspected the brain was involved as well. However, the number of fits she had kept increasing, the medication did decrease the severity of each one, but in the end the seizures just never stopped. I had her put to sleep. My only regret is that I did not put her out of her suffering a little bit sooner. She often knew when she was about to have a fit and would run to my husband or myself, it was heart wrenching.

So, I guess my advice is that you have to judge the quality of life that Acontius is experiencing. Be comfortable that you have done everything that you are able to do from a medical standpoint. And then you need to decide what is best for Acontius.
