Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / question on my hungarian vizsla
- By guest [us] Date 15.09.01 02:08 UTC
I'm hoping someone out there can help me on a question about my vizsla. Did anyone ever have one that has swelled lymph nodes in the neck area. This is Friday nite and I can't see the vet until Monday nite. My husband and I lost our first vizsla 6 years ago to lymphnoma cancer. Our first one was 10 years old when we had to put her down with the cancer. Now we have one that is three years old and her lymph nodes in her neck are really swelled. I had her to the vet 2 months ago for her yearly check-up and her nodes were swelled a little bit, and the vet thought it was because she has some allergy problems this summer. I called on Thursday for an appointment, but I'm panicking. I was wondering if anyone knows if this could be something else besides cancer. I just can't believe that this would happen to us twice. The two dogs are from completely different families. If anybody would see this you can e-mail me at PATMAGDE@aol.com Thank you so much

Hi Guest,

I am sorry to hear about your Viszla's swollen glands.

The node under the chin often swell, my oldest Dobe has always had large ones for some reason but appears perfectly healthy and the vets are not concerned.

When her Aunt had lymphosarcoma the nodes that confirmed the vet's diagnosis were those in her back legs. If you run your fingers down the back of her leg you will feel that there appear to be two halves to her legs - in this gap are lymph nodes and I understand that if these are swollen along with the ones in "armpits", groin, under chin, middle of chest etc there is a strong possibility (not certainty) that it could be lymphosarcoma.

Will your vet talk to you if you ring them? If so ring and explain the symptoms and hopefully they will be able to set your mind at rest as if it is an allergy of some kind there are plenty of fungi spores around at this time of year.
