Hi, I have a Cocker who today is on day 42 of pregnancy from the date of the second mating. She has previously whelped a litter of 3 puppies and on that litter, she did'nt get very big, however, on this litter she already the size she was at term with the last litter and she has 3 weeks to go. When she had a scan on day 28, the vet could only get 2 puppies on the screen, but does anyone think she may have a larger litter this time as on the last litter she did have some difficulty as the puppies were huge. Her stomach has'nt "dropped" as yet but she is starting to have difficulty lying down and has started to snore. Cockermad

Hi
your second litter is normaly the biggest but if the vet only saw two puppies on the scan there are unlikely to be more than four if you only have a few puppies it is likely that they will be big all you can do is wait and see what arrives and keep a close eye on here at whelping time incase she needs some help!
stomach size is not a indication of the size of the puppies last year we had two bitches in whelp at the same time one bitch was twice the size of the other and had 5 puppies the other bitch had 7 the puppies were more or less identical in size!!
good luck and let us know what your little girl has
cheers kate
