I was wondering if anyone out there had any advice ideas as to what are the best items to put inside a Kong. Someone said that you made up a mixture which consisted of dog meal/biscuits wetted and shoved in so as to fill the cavity completely. Doesn't this make a mess as it comes out and get ground into bedding etc? Initially and would be getting a small one for the pup and then move up in size as it grows. Recipes!/ideas/suitable dog biscuits etc. would be most helpful. Cheers ;)

when you fill it the idea (ive been told)is to place it in the freezer and then the dog licks the solid stuff, hopefully keeping the dog ocupied for a while there are also Buster cubes which you fill with small biscuits (I use cat Biscuits)the dog rolls it around collecting biscuits on the way,My two pups are really funny with theres Harry concentrates very hard in rolling the toy and Minnie gathers up and eatsall the biscuits LOL who says its a mans world

Well i tend to improvise depending on what's available; my girl loved Shapes stuffed inside, and puppy Banya likes cocktail sausage (!), cheese cubes, raisins, a chewstick, and a couple of mini markies!!!

My male is of the opinion - why just eat anything stuffed inside - eat the Kong as well and give owner massive vet's bill!!

I usually put two dog cookies inside it then put tinned dog food on the top. For an extra special one I will put cheese and bits of hot dog or sandwich meat. They only get the stuffed kongs when I go out.

If you do a google search on Kong you will find their website which has some great Kong recipes.

Any of the usual dog treats, plus cheese. If you are old fashioned enough to have a bowl of dripping, I spread a bit over the end and chill it well so it acts as a seal. Only problem I find is with two dogs, they are convinced the others' Kong is better than theirs, so a great deal of swapping goes on!

ROTFLOL Lorna, that's so true !!

I stuff my kongs with anything and everything, you name it they've had it and no it doesn't make a mess cos there's no time soon as it's out the kong it's straight down their throats :D

I stuff Cheese & Biscuits as the norm but then add bit's of meat, chewy stick, meat paste to name a few if I need to keep them busy for longer than usual.

Have Fun!

I also smear marmite over mine, they lick it off for ages!

(This is where someone tells me marmite is poisonous for dogs isn't it!)

I always stuff a suitably sized Nylabone in the end of mine, as this stops them destroying the Kong when they have finished playing with it :-) Leigh

I either use a carrot stuffed into it - put the fat end in so that it jams in nicely - and then they chew the carrot down to the kong and then have to work to get the rest of it out. Or else I use a quarter of an apple, on the same principle.

I too stuff my kong with all sorts of goodies then freeze it. Peanut butter is also usually appreciated to plug the ends and isn't messy once frozen. If you go on the web page for "Kongs" they actually have recipe suggestions. It's well worth a look as it is a lovely bright and easily navigated site. If you can't find it let me know and I will try to find the web address.
Have fun

All of you are so lucky to be able to leave stuffed kongs for your dogs when you leave them. Our dogs have to make do with ordinary boreing toys because if they are left with food unsupervised, there would either be a huge fight or just lots of noise for the neighbours to complain about or our Bernese will keep it for herself and put weight on which we are trying to make her lose for the sake of her joints.
