Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog family relationships?

Hi
Please could I have clarification on this: what would my dog's relationship be to another dog from a previous litter from the same parents? They are not really brothers are they or are they?

thanks
cissy

Yes, full brother (or sister), but not litter brother (or sister). Just as a person's second child is full brother to the first (with the same parents).

If you have them your brothers and sisters by the same parents are usually from different litters (in humans singletons are the norm, and multiples less common) :D

So yes they are brothers and sisters, as opposed to LITTER brothers and sisters!

If they have one same parent, then just like 3 of my siblings they are half brothers and sisters, and in my case not step brothers and sisters that some people insist on calling them!!

Edited fro speelling and added:
I also will say 3/4 brother or sister when they have same parent, and the other parents of both are have a parent in common. You find quite a lot of those as some males daughters combine well with a particular male.

It gets even more complicated, as if you have used th3e same male say ona mother and daughter, then their puppires will be half siblings and Aunt/Neice or Uncle/Nephew to the others! :D :D :D

you'd be surprised how many people have given me different views on this too- calling the previous litter "siblings once removed" from my dog!
