Hypothetical (at present) question:
If mother and daughter come in season together and I breed the daughter, will her mother try to mother her grandchildren when they arrive, bearing in mind they are house reared dogs who are always together. Also, is it likely that the daughter would be disturbed with her mother around during whelping and the early weeks.

As for first question, my old girl tries to mother all her grandchildren. As for the second question, all my gang would happily tear her a new ******le if she got anywhere near them after they were born. Even the same room is too close!

True.
At present I have 3 generations. All living in the house and always together. The puppies are only 4 days old (9 of them) and so far no problems with any of them. Forgot to mention I also have a male as well (not the sire of the puppies) and a sister to the one who has just had the puppies. The new mum lets them all come in and have a sniff and generally doesn't mind them being about. And with a little bit of luck in a few years I may have 4 generations all under the one roof ! The one thing that I don't allow is the others to be near her when she is giving birth, I find it upsets the others more than the mother. I think the answer to your question will really depend on your dogs and how maternal they feel.

it all depends on the individual character of the bitch My older bitch would kill any other dog that went near her pups during those 1st few weeks. I have had others that would let almost any other dog in right from day 1. personally I wouldn't allow any animal near a litter until the bitch was happy about it. That may take 2 days or 6 weks depending on the bitch.
