Hello
Guest
Try not to panic, some maiden females do react like this,it's not un common.
You will have to watch her, make sure the pup feeds but hold mums head so that she doesn't attack.Sometimes Mum panics too and this is why they attack, generally this stops as she becomes less anxious, but can also continue where she will not accept the pups at all, and hand rearing becomes neccessary.
Please be very careful, common sense is whats needed now and careful management of both mum and pups. Some females will actually eat their own pups. Sorry to have to say all this but if you don't know ..you need to.
Why not join ch dogs and you can then reply and also get more help as and when you need it and also for support if your'e worried.
Good luck

Hi,
Well if you're too worried about it don't. Sometime you have to get use to it before your female had pups. All you have to do is not to worry. Just be calm and have a nice day. Your female is lucky. Well good luck with the puppy of yours. :D

We had a lab that did this, she only had one puppy but she attacked it and it did take a while for her to get used to it, we got a cage and put the pup in that with a hot water bottle underneath a blanket so she could see, hear, and smell the pup but could not do any damage to it, and two people one to hold onto mum and one to get the pup feeding on regular intervals, she finally did get used to him but be calm dont tell mum off just give lots of reassurance, its usually when the pups feed that they dont like it as they tickle and pull on there nipples, which i guess is a strange experiance:D anyway good luck and if you need anymore help you know where we all are.

The first pups come as a bit of a shock to some bitches some think they have done something wrong... They can also be, what you might feel, rather rough with the new born pup while getting it out of the sack etc. It is normal but be vigilant!
