Looking for some advice, currently have my friends 6 month cocker, she has NOT been socailised which is really sad.

I have two dogs, BC and cocker, both well behaved, obedient, well balanced dogs, so this is obviously helping her out.

In the past she has demonstrated aggression towards other dogs that approach her and towards children. She is petrified of strangers.

She is slowly starting to play with my two dogs, but her body language is a tad confusing!

if anybody can provide me with some guidance, that would be great.

I am taking her out tonight with my friends two dogs then tomorrow we are working on human contact, just taking each day as it comes. She has not been aggressive towards me at all, she is adorable so I can understand why her previous owner has gone wrong, easy to molly-coddle her because of the cuteness factor!

Hi I also have a springer who has the same problem, we took her to a behaviourist who gave us lots of advice and the main thing was to interupt her aggression so she knew it was wrong, however this is not as easy as it sounds. I think our dog had got better as she has got older although we still worry if we meet another dog or children because she is so unpredictable. We dont know why she has fear aggression because we did all the right things when she was young we socialised her with adults children and other dogs and she was fine until she reached 11 months then the problems started, she is now 2.

Thanks I have been distracting her when she starts up, by walking away and talking to myself in a happy and jolly voice (like an idiot, but who cares!!) this certainly gets her attention back to me.

In the wrong hands you can see how people would see it as pure aggression and not fear and shout at her, which would make matters 100 times worse.

As far as I can gather, in the past when other dogs approach her, she gets so scared, she is emptying her anal glands, my BC and cocker are most definitely helping the wee too out. A fair heap of psychology involved, but I am definitely gonna "get" there with her, patience, perseverance, kindness and two excellent mentors!!!!
