Topic Dog Boards / Health / Wobbly Westie after castration
- By Lindsay Date 09.09.01 07:43 UTC
I'm askng this on behalf of someone else, but there is a Westie who has just been castrated andhe seems to have lost control of his legs and tail.

He can't walk very well, seems a bit unco-ordinated, and his tail which is usually held quite high is down.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

How long ago was he done and how old is he? If it was within 48 hours of the op then it could just be the 'drugs' wearing off, some dogs take longer to recover than others. My Winston was very wobbly when I got him after the op and I had to carry him every where to start with. If it continues after 48 hours I would get your friend to take the dog back to the vet for their opinion.

I agree with Bec, Lindsay. With a VERY recent op it's almost certainly the residue of the drugs but more than a day or so and take no chances. I would expect that after a nights sleep a Lab would throw off the effects but some breeds suffer more than others, Flatcoats are a good example.

Best wishes, John

Thanks to both Joohn and Bec, I felt this would be the case but wondered if it waas some strange unknown Westie thing!!!

I will check when the ooperation was done.

Lynsy.
Im in tears I cant stop thinking of the poor little westie
wobbling all over the place ,after that awful op .
how can anyone do this to a dog .It is a terriable operation I
have seen it myself when our neighbours dogs was done ,but he had cancer ,and it was necessary to save his life .To do it for convenience is just a sin.Again if its necessary it must be done but not for most of the reasons given from people writing in . Sharon, (daughter of mari )
