Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop this revolting habit? My five month old pup eats dried-up S**t, not 'fresh'. He's been wormed regularly.
Karrie.

Karrie, if you run a search on this subject or trawl through the behaviour forum, you will find many threads on this subject.

Yes. Remove the dried up poop.

Revolting habit indeed. My 5-month old Cairn will only eat fox poop and her own poop. I clean up after her immediately. The fox poop she manages to find nearly every time I take her for a walk it seems.

They usually outgrow it to some extent as they get older.

Revolting to us yes,but please try to look at any dog behaviour through a dogs eyes.
A dog does not distinguish between any `revolting` finds while out on a walk, if it smells remotely interesting it will have a try/taste! In the wild this is the norm to recycle food and as you have been told there are many solutions already posted but be warned you may have to try more than one, as what works for one does not work for another!

Hi Karrie

My 6mth weimaraner likes horse's mess I have found the only way is to try and distract her i.e. run off ahead of her and call her and she will follow me and then praise her, I think it is something they will grow out of - and she doesn't do it all the time.

Hi,

Dogs can be so gross :-)

I had a Border Collie when I was a kid and whenever my mum moved the Guinea Pig cage so they had grass to eat he would run round and eat up all their mess - he loved it !!!!
