Hi Guys
My friend's little Sheltie - Becks gets really excited when he comes to Ringcraft and Obedience Classes and will bark and whine nearly the whole class :( Squirting him with water and telling him to be quiet etc hasn't helped, do any of you have any ideas on getting him to be quiet.
Many thanks
Dessie :D :D - With the quiet Cockers :)

Hi there
Don't have this problem with mine (yet!)
But someone at a puppy class we took Rufus to did...and the
vet suggested filing a can with coins and shaking it at them.
Apparently the sound is awful to a dogs hears.. just a thought.

We have used a can filled with pebbles successfully at home - but in a class situation it can be frightening for other dogs as well :(

:D @ Louise

How about execise before class and go a little bit earlier to class to allow some socializing. It may help.
ttfn :)

Hi Dessie
Take him into a class and as SOON as he starts to bark, tell him 'no' or 'quiet' then take him back out briskly and put him in the car for a minute or two. Bring him back out and keep repeating. Timing is crucial - at the first bark, spin round and remove him.

Thanks for your replies guys I will pass them on to my friend and hopefully something will work.
Dessie :D :D
I have implemented very similar ideas to Lara's suggestion and it does work very well - especially if the dog loves the dog club or whatever :)
(Of course if it hates it then putting back in the car will be seen as a reward/relief/reprieve

As she says, timing is crucial here but it does work wonders.
