Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / New puppy won't eat!!

Hi,

I have recently acquired a puppy. On the first day home she ate fine and well. The second day she would not eat the puppy food that the breeder had recommended. She ate cheese at breakfast (which the breeder had been feeding her) and fresh cooked chicken at tea time. She is drinking goats milk and water too. This morning she has snubbed her nose at the puppy food again but will eat it if I put it on my finger and give it to her! As a result of this she has not pooed for 24 hours!!

I realise that if she does not eat the puppy food then she will not be getting all her nutrients. I don't want to resort to giving her supplements as I would rather she got used to a proper diet. I appreciate puppies can snub their nose at food initially but considering she ate well on the first day I thought she would continue to eat fine. She seems to be settled otherwise, only waking me up every 2 hours last night instead of every hour on the first night!!

Any advise on what I can do other than finger feeding all the time!!

Thanks

Lesley

Hi, what breed is she and how old is she?

Initital thoughts are that she is training you quite well! Is she on the diet from the breeder? Its really important at this stage now you don't encourage a fussy puppy....and also realise she won't let herself starve.

If you register then I am sure you will get lots and lots of help, support and advice. And hopefully Melody will be along to put a "register here" link on soon :D
