Can anyone help????
I looking for a small grooming aid comb/brush for the above breed.
It has revolving cutters I believe, that removes/strips the hair effortlessly without hurting the pup.
Where can I get it and the approx price?
At what pup age can they be used?
Thanks

Valerie,

I believe what you are describing is called a curry comb. Simpsons catalog has them.

I do not know what age you can begin using them - I never heard of them myself! Sure sound great.

I have a Cairn and I am sure they are not used on them. Dachshund coats may be different, but for Cairns you need to make sure you remove the entire hair when you strip. Looking at the picture of the curry comb I do not see how you would be certain it would get the entire hair shaft, rather than cut it.

If you plan on showing your dachshund I suggest you talk to others that do just to be sure it's the right tool to use.

I don't think so Stacey - I have a curry comb (ok it's for the horse!) but it definately doesn't cut hair. It's made of rubber with serrated edges but just removes loose hair, mud etc....
I think Valerie must be thinking of some sort of stripping knife!

Yes it's a stripping knife about 1 inch or so wide, the breeder (MWHD) pick it up at one of the dog shows, but cannot remember who or where.
I'm now trying the web sites, if successful I will post details.
Thanks for your help

You can buy stripping knives at pets at home.

Don't buy those cheap stripping knives from pets at home!

They are very sharp & cut the hair - which is not what stripping is about!.

Valerie,

The above is what you described. The Simpsons catalog has this description about its curry combs, "this revolutionary new multi-stripping comb is regarded by professional groomers as indispensable. Combines cutting, stripping and combing in one easy time saving operation. Ergonomically designed in every aspect, this tool is a joy to use and helps reduce grooming repetative strain injuries". Sure sounds like the same thing to me.

They comes in 6 different sizes for different coat types. They look to me like a combination of a blade and comb that revolves. They are for dogs, not horses. Although there are also much larger ones made for horses.

Pets at Home I think sells something similar to the curry comb, although there is only one choice in my local branch. What you described is definitely not a stripping knife. Pets at Home has stripping knifes as well, which are okay. I eventually ordered them from elsewhere to get a better quality one.

I think you are looking for a `Coat King` available from
www.hubint.com or www.simpsons-online.co.uk

but if you are showing aren`t MWD supposed to be hand stripped?
