Hi Neil,
I never start weaning my litters till they are at least 3 weeks old. Then for the first few days I give them a teaspoon of scraped beef (get a nice piece of steak and scrape a knife over the surface to get a pulp) as they can choke on mince. After a few days of this they are starting the get the hang of meat, and I introduce a teaspoon of finely minced meat mixed with a teaspoon of soaked and mashed puppy kibble - the brand I want to get them on to. A good book about collies (what type - Rough, Border, Bearded?) will be able to help you further.

Good luck. :)
