My Westie

I bought my Westie from a nice lady who for personal reasons could no longer keep her, about 3 months ago.

She has settled in with us really well. I feed her chopped chicken mixed with Oscar complete food twice a day. She is a picky eater.

She loves our old Jack Russell and our cat, loves her walkies and is a pretty
uncomplicated dog. I adore her.

Since we had her though now and again, always on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, she will rush panting to the back door and when I let her outside, is sick. She has never been sick after food. She usually recovers quickly and has her breakfast. I would say this has happened about three or four times since we had her. Something that occurred to me as I wrote this was that when we had her she was car sick - but with patience we have cured that and now she likes the car. Could these sicky things be some sort of nervous thing?

She does get very excited and I think it might happen after she has had a bout of yapping - various things seem to set her off, like the paperboy or whatever. Wondered if it might be like us coughing - sometimes it makes you sick. All she brings up is bile. As it only happens occasionally I haven't mentioned it to the vet. She was spayed a few weeks ago from which she made a good recovery.

Has anyone else experienced these odd bouts of sickness?

My dogs all do this occasionally - as you say, first thing in the morning, before breakfast, and just bringing up some bile. Then they come dashing in for food as if nothing has happened. I think it's caused by having an empty stomach too long. I give them a Bonio last thing at night, when they're in their beds (about 10.30 pm) to try to have something inside them through the night, and I'm careful not to be late with their breakfast! As they have no other ill-effects I stopped worrying about it.

If anyone else has any more info, we'd both be glad! :)

I've experienced something similar with my Terv, if we leave it too long for breakfast she may bring up clear liquid and retch a bit. It doesn't happen much now because we feed her just 3 small biscuits, or a bonio, first thing in the morning and so far she has never retched on the days she has had these :)

She does however if on occasion i have been a bit late with the biscuit.

I had the same with my last Aussie - if I was up a bit later that usual in the morning, you could guarantee that he would have been sick (just liquid). If I was quick and fed him straight away, it wouldn't happen. I always presumed it was because his stomach was empty - perhaps it's something to do with the acid, like we get a rumble if we're hungry!
