Zoey is now 39 days and she doesn't show at all, is this normal? I can't hear the heart beats with a stethoscope either. The vet said that this will be a small litter he doesn't think any more than 4. He did the scan and only saw 3. I will be taking her back at 50-55 days.

With my breed, Westies, a smaller litter doesn't "show" sometimes until 6 -6 1/2 weeks, if you mean tummy size. I'm not critising only interested, but why are you planning such a late scan? Are you expecting a C section? If not I personally would not risk a trip out in the car so close to whelping as 55 days may be only 3 days before she starts labour and the stress may start her off early imo. I would not have thought you would hear heartbeats so soon, but as always I am happy to be corrected! :-)

I was told that I couldnt have her X-ray done till 50-55 days. I have a site that I have been going by because I haven't got my book of the bitch yet. it says that at 6 weeks should be able to hear the heartbeats. www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/medical/whelping.html I know very little about whelping and didn't plan on Zoey having puppies. The BAD dog down the street got in her fence, and well you know what happens from there. lol

Personally, Id skip the x-ray, you know she is in whelp so why do it with all the infection risks of a trip to the vet again. It wont tell you any more than you know, and if she has a pup tucked away behind her ribs it wont be picked up and so you still wont have accurate numbers. Let her surprise you. I have trouble getting heartbeats on small litters day before whelping so dont panic!
