I am unsure whether or not to show my dog when she is out of coat?

A judge should only judge what he or she can see on the day and not what he thinks or even knows is normal! So the answer is you should be wasting your time.

Sorry, John

Is it a breed where they usually drop there coat at the same time,As you may find there is many more in the same boat.

Like B/1000 says, you may also find the other dogs have shed their coat :)

It will also depend on whether it is a very heavy coated breed whose appearance would be altered markedly when out of coat!

Also some dogs that have heavy coats actually look their best when half in coat.

At a recent open show, I was watching three dogs being judged, two of whom looked like in full coat, the other had no coat at all. This was the one the judge placed 1st though, because this dog stood perfectly and looked a professional even without coat, where the other two fidgeted a bit and didn't stand well, although all 3 were good specimens of their breed. (well, I thought so!!!).

In some breeds a coat can hide a multitude of sins, better a sound dog with little coat than a inferior with a beautifull one A number of years ago I took a very out of coat bitch to Crufts, my teenage daughter had very thoughtfully brushed the loose hair out as it was makeing a mess of the kitchen floor, The dog came away with reserve best bitch. She alway lost her coat three week before Cruft whenever it was sheduled but she still got best bitch twice.

Well, Miss Loki-No knickers is entered for Crufts, but as at the moment she would be an admirable winner of the hairless Australian Shepherd...... I don't think we shall take her!!! We're going though!
