I am due a b'day present from him indoors and have decided on a show jacket. Question is. Am I better getting a tweed type hacking jacket or one of the blue ones? I plan to do mainly riding club type stuff and the odd WH/showjumping class at local shows. Nothing too fancy.
Never having competed before I don't know which would be the most suitable.
All advice welcome.
Thanks

from an also totally novice hose owner I have recently bought a blue one and intend to mainly do dressage. I think some working hunter type classes might require a checked type jacket but not sure if this is just preferred and not a pre-requisite. I think Sam may know so hopefully she can help out.

hi in my experience if you just plan on entering local shows then it doesnt matter to much,i prefer the blue as its more versatile.......

Hi 9th
I must admit, I have never seen people over here in Jersey, showjumping or doing riding club stuff with a tweed show jacket. I think they are mainly for hunting etc. I think navy is very smart, but i guess if you can have either, it would be to personal taste? :D
Go with the navy !! :D

Hi 9th, long time since I was doing the riding thing, but in my day it was traditional to only wear a tweed jacket for Working Hunter classes.

PS before anyone makes any wisecracks, I meant together with breeches of course. lol :-)

Hi, As you only want to do local stuff I dont really think it matters, just which you prefer. Any workers would be done in a tweed but again local level wont be fussy! I'd go for whichever you like the look of best. What sort of horse is it?

I have always had a black jacket to complete and have done everything a local level inculding SJ, showing, WH and dressage. I have prefere the black as it looks smart.
I am lucky as I now have a made to measure with a purple velvet collar to match his rugs (which is a purple fleece bound in gold and balck!) :D
The only thing if you don't mind which you have if you are considering doing any of the BHS stage exams they like you to have a hacking jacket as it is a "Working Day".

Personally I would go with the tweed but if you want to be ultra correct then BHS do a good little booklet called "what to wear" and it gives you the correct turnout for every discipline.
