I have been trying to find a crate for our new puppy (Alaskan Malamute) and would really appreciate some advice. What are the main differences between the products on the market and what size should I buy? I dont like the thought tof the dog not having much room and so was wondering if it would be best to purchase the biggest one that I can find.

Thanks in advance,

from the compulsive puppy product shopper.

I have Elkhounds that are 19 to 22 inches tall and have found that they need a crate 27 inches tall. They will fit into a 31inch by 24 inch, but as I sometimes need to put two in for a brief time (say when going to the loo at a show) I opted for one 36 inches long, which will take two at a pinch.

I would imagine you will need a crate 6 inches taller than a Malamute is tallo at the shoulder, and about 12 inches longer than his length from butocks to chest.

There is someone on here that has one for sale that was for a Newfoundland! So look down the list of Active Topics for crate for sale!

There are now car shaped collapsible crates available, which hopefully should be wide enough, I suppose they are wider at base, but shorter in length and narrower at top. I have seen them advertised by Stock Nutrition.
