Ask the breeder what she's being fed on now and for advice on how much/how often, and when to increase the feed, etc. That way you can be fully prepared. If , for some reason, you're not happy with the food the breeder has her on, it's best not to change her diet immediately but gradually over several days, increasing the new food as you tail off the old, to try to avoid stomach upsets.
Don't panic if she goes off her food for the first few days as she settles in with you. This is quite common as she is coping with a huge change in her life. Just carry on offering her the food when she should be eating, leave it for 15 minutes or so, then remove it until the next meal-time. She'll get used to the routine. Don't be tempted to think she's gone off it and start offering her lots of other tasty tit-bits to get her eating. She'll be a good way towards training you into giving her what she likes:D

Hi animalnut,

My breeder recommends Purina Pro Plus or Friskies Beta. My new pup is thriving on either - though she eats anything put in her bowl, she's not fussy. They contain all the nutrients they need in nice small dried biscuit form. Make sure you leave plenty of drinking water as they have to make up for the dry food!

I like it because she looks good on it and it's easy to feed.

In the end your breeder will be able to recommend what they think is a good food.

Good Luck

Heidi

Hiya, animalnut

What about that Jameswellbeloved (I think thats the name, deffinetly wellbeloved), i haven't tried it as our puppy is on Pedigree chum puppy complete thats good but it makes her drink more often than the friskies beta stuff mentioned by heidi. hope i've helped! :)

<<<I will ask the breeder what he has been feeding her and then decide if I like it..>>>

But it's not you who has to eat it, Jessica ;)
I'd suggest getting the same brand the breeder has been feeding and then change your pup gradually over a few weeks if this turns out to be a food you dislike. Going to a new home can be stressful enough on young pups tums, without the added stress of changing foods, too....JMO :)

Thanks for the advice,, I'll probably just stay with what the breeder has been feeding her..
