My eldest Elkie has a habit of always wiping his mouth after eating.Unfortunately he hasn't learnt to use a serviette so he uses the carpet instead!!LOL. He slides his face along the floor with his front legs tucked under him and his back legs pushing him along moaning ( as if in total extasy) as he goes.
Does anybody elses dogs have funny habits?

I have heard of people teaching their dogs to wipe their mouths on a cloth that was attached to the ground. Try this: after the dog finishes eating, take him over to the cloth, or take him over to the cloth if he starts rubbing his face on the ground. If he uses the cloth, reward him and praise him. I'm not a trainer, but who knows -- it could work! Worked for a friend of mine.

Hehe, Archer, my GH does the same, but he prefers my trousers :D. And Tara (BC) walks on the spot when she sees me getting the saddle for the horse out. :D.

My Westie Bella always does this after eating but luckily she uses her vet bed! Also if she is wet when she comes in or has been snuffling in the undergrowth and has a muddy mask. It looks like she is in total extacy, she lies down, stretches out full length and and wipes it very quickly efficiently! I wish she could wipe her paws too. :-) She also carries anything and everything about, more like a gundog, and the best is when she has a pinched a towel off the rayburn rail. She will wrap it round your legs while you are gooey first thing on the morning making that all important first cuppa, you take a step to reach the sugar and wallop, you're on the floor! You can almost see her laughing. Jimmy of course looks on in distain, he doesn't "get up" til at least 9am.

Yep my staff does the same! absolute satisfaction to him! :D he propels himself forwards with his back legs while his face is buried in the rug wiping from side to side as he goes. Most amusing :D

Taz does this after he eats or drinks first he will wipe his face on his front paws, since that does not work too good he then wipes his face on my couch. He will even come up to you and if u let him he will use your shirt or pants. He is a big bratt, but we love him.

ttfn :)

I don't know if it is a habit or what but my Staffy seems to like nothing better than to eat her own business, uggggh I know but obviously I can't do anyhting about it, no sooner have I got the bag on my hand she's off with it. A few people have said it's due to worms, but both are wormed every 4wks with her being a pup, she can't be hungry as she is fed 6oz twice daily I really don't know why she does it and do try to be with her when ever she does go for a 2 but can't follow her round all day with the nappy sacks can I!!!!!!

There have been several threads about this in the past with suggestions of things to try, like pineapple. Have a search for poo eating.

I didn't realise that Munsters were quite so jowley, when Mungo has a drink and looks up, literally for about 5 seconds the water pours from his mouth back into his bowl. This really makes me laugh, but with that he comes bounding over to me and I get the rest on my trousers!!!! :)

Beth.

Dogs eat their own poo because it tastes good to them. Mine will eat her own and fox poo. She leaves other dog's poo alone.

When I am with her when she poos I have a bag in hand and a small treat in the other hand. The treat is just a piece of her dry food. Instead of eating her poo immediately, she comes to me for her reward and I then have the chance to get to her poo before she does.

They do tend to grow out of it after a while, at least the frequency decreases. I've found terriers are absolutely the worst for this type of activity, but all breeds indulge.

Hi Archer,
Our "Piglet" wipes his face on the rug in ecstasy after his meals...then has to collapse against the sofa, roll onto his back and push himself off across the floor - if he pushes hard enough he can reach the other side of the room...! :)

After Foggy and Mia have eaten their dinners, Mia licks all along Foggy's teeth. They don't take half as much brushing!
