My older Dobie was spayed after her first season. When she was about 6 years old she started 'dripping' urine. The vet put her on Propalin syrup. this worked. Is there a problem with long term use and was the spaying connected to the dripping? I'm new to this, can anyone help please

Hi,

Main problem with long term use of Propalin is that all people I've known who had experience of it - me included, well my dog anyway :) - find that it loses its efficiency. I found Incurin to be a far more efficient, and cheaper, substitute so it might be worth asking your vet about this.

Incurin didn't work with my bitch. I'm not sure if there is a connection between spaying and dripping.

I think in certain breeds there is a connection between docking, spaying and incontinence.

If I remember correctly from the study I read (ages ago) the muscles that would normally be used for the tail are not as strong as in a full tailed dog and when speying this can alter the angle of some part of the urinary system, these two combined together were believed to cause the problem.

No idea what to do about it though as never had this problem (yet!)
