Hi I have a cute little yorkie cross she has been with me now for 3 months,
I'm her 4th owner, she gets very excited when I come into the room and jumps up and down I do tend to ignore her now untill I'm ready to pay her attention,How long befor she gets the message? she is very intelligent she knows what what I want from her but seems to try it on some times.
Also when we are out 'walkies'I take some treats and have her on an extending lead,
when she is so far out I call her back if she responds I treat her if not she misses out,
well I would like to know when it would be right for me to let her off her leash,I'm also worried if she would go after farm animals as we are in a village,
I took her to clicker training for 2 weeks but she was just not doing well and so I was geting stressed ,so I'm trying to teach her myself.
please advise,If I can get her trained I'd love to get her a friend either a yorkie or a yorkie x
regards Gerry

Dear Gerry,
Sound like you are doing all the right things!!
Some dogs are just more intelligent and will keep inventing new things to wiggle out of your authority.
At the end of the day its all about who has the longest breath Im afraid! Dont forget your little one is probably used
to getting her way from previous owners! :)

Gerry - you say you 'tend' to ignore her - if you want ignoring her to teach her not to jump you must ignore her 100% when she is jumping up, or the 1% when you don't ignore her will be enough incentive for her to keep jumping up for the reward (which may be attention, or to be pushed away, dogs dont really care) It can be more productive to tell her just what you do want her to do to get a fuss, so ask her to 'sit' if she has been trained to, and then fuss her. She will soon catch on that sitting properly gets a fuss, but jumping doesn't - but only if that is what happens ALL the time.......
