Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / My puppy keeps crying...
- By Franc [gb] Date 17.02.03 14:06 UTC
Hi all.

Need a bit of advice.

My labrador puppy Beau is 4 months old. Over the last few weeks he has become really clingy and cries whenever I leave a room.

He normally stays in our kitchen which has patio doors he can see through into the other living areas. If my partner or Dad are within his view, Beau is quite calm and is happy getting on with himself. However, if I'm in view he barks and cries continually until I go to the kitchen by which time he is almost whimpering, he'll then try to jump up into my lap as though he's a baby.

He wasn't always like this and was fine before....but in the last few weeks he has started really crying. He gets loads of attention and play but I'm worried that this isn't good for him.

Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks all.

Hi Claire ..I think the clue to your answer is in written in your post Quote he barks and cries continually until I go to the kitchen by which time he is almost whimperingEnd quote ...he is getting to the crafty age ...he KNOWS that crying will get attention and , therefore , there is no reason to stop :D

Sneaky little things pups . Also , he is probably teething ....so that would add to his worries. Is he not allowed into the living area at all?

Hi Melody.

Thanks for the reply.

No he is allowed in the living area ..its just we are slowing introducing him to our cat and she gets very cross if he is around trying to play all the time. So rather avoid a scratch in his eye and keep in the kitchen/ utility room than the lounge. As I'm normally either in the kitchen or kinda study/ pc quiet room...puppy is normally with me...while the men watch footie elsewhere....typical!
You are quite right with the quote though. Previously I had left him and he cried a bit and then would calmed down...maybe he is been crafty and trying his luck.
Do you think its best if I stop and ignore him then?

Yes , I reckon ignoring him until he lies quietly and THEN praising him for good behaviour would be the way to go ;) He WILL be very persistant though ..he knows that he can get what he wants by crying :D

Oh ..and if you click on the edit button , you can delete the other 2 posts - the site has been a bit slow today and accidents happen :D
